Girl Talk

So I had to share this text exchange with a fellow (that I barely know) who I tried to nicely explain wasn’t my type after he continuously referenced my breasts and asked if they are real in random conversation.

Him: “It’s so easy for you to say I’m not your type bc you can’t take an honest question. What’s striking is how bland ur actions are. No wonder how easy it is for you to walk away from getting too close to anyone. I am good either way elle…lol..and I pride myself on being a very good man. U need a deep soul searching.”

My response: “Lol, really I know a good man when I meet one and a degree and a Dr. before your name don’t make a good man. To me, a good man is respectful above everything else. If I need a soul searching for not allowing someone I don’t know to talk about my body then I pray for the girls you are used to talking to. Sorry if I’m a little old fashioned but that’s me. I understand your used to being the catch but I’m fine either way too.”

Can we just stop and LOL at the “U need a deep soul searching” bit?!!!! LOL

Didn’t know Tumblr publishes your answers to questions on your blog! Odd…dunno about that one Tublr -_-

Anonymous asked: Where does your inspiration to write come from?

My inspiration comes from everywhere! Life experiences, the random happenings of any given day, emotions I feel, people I meet, songs I hear…a lot from songs I hear. Inspiration is everywhere :)

Wondering whats on your mind, it must be hard to be that fine

Can a woman truly be successful at work AND at home?

I’m seriously starting to hate my life. It’s 8:30 and I’m still at the office. I left the office at 9:30 last night. I used to go home and cook and laugh and be happy, now I leave the office tired and irritable. Now I see why you never see a truly successful woman who also has a great life at home.

Something’s gotta give because I definitely want a great home life over a successful career. It’s like a downward spiral, your single so you focus more on work…then your free time becomes non existent…then you never meet anyone…then you wake up a VP at 30 with no kids, no husband, and “friends”. That’s my biggest fear in life. Failing at what truly matters while succeeding at things that really…in the long run don’t matter at all.

What feeling lasts longer, your first kiss or your first A+? Do you even remember your first A+?

I’m feenin wing stop… (Ricky rozay voice)

So I made some homemade lemon pepper wings…here’s my recipe.

Here’s all that you need (Disclaimer - measurements aren’t really my thing):

1 Pack of chicken wingettes or drumettes

1 stick of butter/margarine (melted)

1 Lemon

2-3 Cups of oil (depending on your size of pot/amount of chicken)

1-2 cups of flour

Sea Salt

Pepper

Lemon Pepper

Garlic Powder

Hot sauce

Here we go!

Start by pouring oil into a deep pot or pan (you should have about 1 1/2 inches of oil), heat oil on high until a sprinkle of flour sizzles

While your oil is heating up, place chicken in a bowl and season well with salt and pepper, mixing the chicken to season evenly. Sprinkle a few drops of hot sauce and mix again (hot sauce cooks off but helps keep the flavor so don’t worry if you don’t like spicy)

Next, pour flour into a bag, season well with about 2 tsp of salt, 1 tablespoon of lemon pepper, 1 tsp pepper and 1 tsp garlic powder. Drop chicken about 3 or 4 pieces at a time into the flour and shake until chicken is coated.

Once all chicken is shaken and coated (lol), carefully drop into hot oil. (tip: make sure oil is hot enough by testing with a smaller piece of chicken or a pinch of flour. Nothing is worse than cooking chicken in oil that’s not hot enough…ew..soggy). Drop chicken in so that there is an even layer of pieces. If the oil is hot enough, cooking should take between 15-20 minutes and look like this:

(Hint: Chicken floats in the oil when it’s cooked through. Another hint: chicken will turn more golden brown once out of the oil)

Chef’s Tip: Cleaning while you cook helps the prep time go faster and leaves much less to do after you cook - try it!

Remove chicken and place in an even layer on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

While chicken is draining..it’s time to make the sauce! In a large bowl, combine melted butter, 1 tablespoon lemon pepper, 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp salt, and 1tsp garlic powder. With a grater, grate about 1 tsp of lemon rind into the butter mixture. After grating the rind, slice lemon in have and squeeze whole lemon into the mixture.

Next, drop the chicken into the large mixing bowl..and get to tossin!

Voila! Transfer to a plate, throw on some rick ross and grab a few wings. (oh…and the kitchen is already clean so just sit back and enjoy!)

Thank You

You never know when an angel has been sent to cross your path. This past friday I had a rough, rough day. Feeling defeated, I’d agreed to meet my mom for dinner at Georgia Brown’s in downtown DC. I walk up to the hostess, whom I’ve never met before, and she looks at me for a second and asks me if I have a blog named Mixed in the City. She told me she enjoys reading it and that I should keep it up. She has no idea what those words meant to me or how they turned my day around. I feel motivated and rejuvenated…to know someone out there reads your words and remembers them…it felt amazing. So if you are reading this… Thank you.
